Collin Needs Surgery to Save His Leg
Donation protected
Dear Friends, Colleagues and Supporters,
My son Collin was born with Autism and at age 3 was diagnosed with stage 4 Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer in his right leg. Due to an aggressive chemo and radiation regimen his doctors were able to cure the cancer and save his leg from amputation. However, his leg and body were left with bone deformities including a severe length discrepancy, premature joint degeneration and functional scoliosis all of which left him unable to participate in activities and hobbies like other kids.
After years of living like this, Collin had finally grown enough to have surgery to address these physical issues and in November of 2020 he began an arduous series of limb-lengthening surgeries. A year later he went in for a 3rd and supposedly final surgery. Things went awry during the lengthening process, dislocating his hip and causing severe limb-threatening complications. His hip is still dislocated and it has now been over 2 years since Collin has been able to walk without crutches. The inability to put any weight on the damaged leg has caused atrophy and bone deterioration throughout the pelvis, hip and entire right leg.
We went from being on the verge of having our prayers answered that this leg disability would be remedied to being told we have to seriously consider amputation.
After months of tirelessly trying to find alternative solutions, we were able to locate a specialist in Baltimore, MD who can perform an operation to potentially save his leg. Unfortunately, with our current insurance coverage, there will be exorbitant out-of-pocket costs. Due to Collin's autism, numerous medical and physical therapy appointments, and his inability to be independent for the last couple of years I haven’t been able to work, thereby creating a monumental financial roadblock that has led us here.
I would be beyond grateful for your support. With your help, we have a chance at giving Collin a healthy and fulfilling life. Please also consider helping Collin by spreading the word through social media, text, email and even word of mouth. Every little bit will make a difference.
With Gratitude,
