Help Collette Recover from Stolen Savings
Donation protected
This fundraiser is to help cover living expenses with the goal of replacing stolen savings.
Over the past two years Collette has been struggling to overcome a series of unfortunate events, that have lead to her losing all of her savings, and needing to leave her job due to transphobic management. Collette has spent the past couple years trying to put things back together on her own, hoping that she wouldn’t need to ask for help in this way- but unfortunately this is her last resort to help cover living expenses.
In March of 2025 someone stole over $5,000 from Collette in an elaborate, targeted scam. Scammers called her claiming to have her girlfriend, saying they would shoot her if Collette didn’t send them money. The scammers were very calculating, going so far as to use her partners full name, use some form of AI to replicate her partners voice, and give personal details that would be hard to find without knowing Collette or her partner.
After contacting Collette’s bank, the police and all other involved parties, it was established that there was nothing anyone could do to get her money back. This money was Collette’s entire life savings, that she had set aside for moving expenses in an attempt to move to a country that is safer for trans people to live in.
After unsuccessfully trying to recover the stolen funds, Collette experienced a severe mental health crisis in which she attempted to end her life. Collette had put in many years at a job that treated her poorly due to transphobic managment, and didn’t feel capable of going back to work in such a hostile environment- after going through such a traumatic experience.
Collette’s hours were cut in half without warning while she was still recovering from her suicide attempt. This all has lead Collette to making the difficult decision to leave her hostile workplace and try to find a safer, more secure workplace.
The funds from this fundraiser would go directly towards rent, cost of living and day to day expenses that Collette has been struggling to cover on her own since her savings was stolen. We know that times are tough for everyone right now, and there are many people in need, so anything you’re able to give is deeply appreciated by Collette and her support system.
