Help college kids save kitten
Donation protected
hello,
last week on my 20th birthday my boyfriend and I picked up an 8 week old kitten right after it got hit by a car. her jaw was de-gloved... the skin was torn exposing the muscle layer. we immediately took her to the local animal hospital, where we paid for her surgery. Two days later, despite our near round the clock attention and care (we only left her alone at night where she was kept in a bathroom with cone on), her sutures came out leaving her poor little jaw hanging. We rushed her back to the vet and paid another hefty sum to have the sutures replaced (bringing our net financial loss to close to $1200), only for them to come out again the following day. We got a second opinion from another vet who informed us that the sutures the original vet put in were basically doomed to come out, and that we had gone to such great expense for basically nothing. This vet referred us to one of her colleagues who is capable of doing a different procedure that is far more likely to succeed. Unfortunately, it will be another $900. We are both college students and we have drained our emergency funds to pay for the little thing's surgery... the well is now dry. What started as an expensive but manageable good deed has totally snowballed into a massive financial burden.
All we want to do is help the little thing live. I am currently monitoring it 24/7, flushing and treating its wounds multiple times a day, syringe feeding, etc. all while preparing for my finals. If we surrender the little one she will certainly be euthanized. She is still such an infant and she is a fighter, too. I simply cannot do that to her if she even has a chance. I am doing everything in my power to keep infection at bay and keep her pain managed. This procedure will give her much better odds. If you feel so called help me help her I will forever be grateful.
The pictures I have attached are from the days when her sutures were still in tact, as her injury is incredibly graphic.
