Help colin fund back surgery

June 10th, 2019 was a typical day for Colin Giesbrecht, he started his morning and headed to his roofing job. At the end of his workday, an incident occurred which caused Colin to fall off the one-story roof he had been working on. Unfortunately, this accident caused severe damage to Colin’s back and changed his life as he knew it. Since the accident, Colin cannot live his life the way he used to…. Colin loved to be active, he loved his roofing job, going for walks, bike rides, fishing and many other activities. However, the pain Colin experiences everyday has made it difficult for him to do any of these things, some days this pain is so extreme that simple tasks such as walking or even sitting for extended periods of time are challenging for him. Colin is also unable to work due to his injuries and spends his days in pain at home, trying to find any way to ease his pain and get back to the life he had before he was injured.

Over the past three years, Colin has seen many doctors, tried many medications and had numerous steroid injections in his back to help ease the pain, but nothing has worked. An MRI taken in 2019 revealed that 3 of his vertebrae discs; the L2, L4, and L4 were herniated, this injury also caused a pinched nerve root. After three years of living with this pain, Colin was told that surgery seems to be the only option to help solve his back pain. Specialists have told Colin that surgery would be the best option, however, the waitlist for the back surgery Colin needs is over 5 years in Manitoba. Colin, his family and his friends do not want him to sit and wait in pain any longer.

Although Colin has tried many treatments for his pain, he has not lost hope. Recently, Colin found doctors in Germany that specialize in spinal surgeries. These doctors have lots of experience operating on back injuries with disc replacements or spinal fusions and these surgeries have had amazing results! The patients have accomplished miraculous recoveries after these surgeries. Colin, his family and friends want him to get better, this surgery in Germany is his best option to be able to live a long and healthy life, without suffering with the extreme backpain that has hindered his ability to fully live his life today.

Colin is an amazing person; he truly cares for all the people in his life and his community. All those who know Colin will say that he is a caring and loving son, brother, nephew, grandson and friend. Colin is a very hard worker, and he is deeply missed at his job. Colin’s support group has created this GoFundMe in hopes to raise enough money that would allow him to fly to Germany and get this surgery, we have not given up hope that we can find a cure for Colin’s pain.

Colin is a very selfless person and would never think to ask for help from others…however, we all want him to have the opportunity to heal, and he truly deserves to feel safe and supported by all those that love and appreciate him.
