Cole, my son, lives in Tennessee and is working tirelessly to gain custody of his daughter, Allison, who lives in California. Recently, Allison's mother developed serious alcohol and drug problems, which put Allison in danger. Thankfully, Cole was visiting at the right time—her mother was arrested, and Allison was spared from entering foster care. However, the legal system in California is complicated, and it is not easy for a father to obtain custody, especially from out of state.
