Hi, I'm Hannah Hiemstra, and I'm reaching out for help for someone incredibly special to me – my little brother, Cole Hiemstra.

Cole is a 16-year-old, incredibly smart, and an all-around amazing kid. Just two weeks ago, our world turned upside down when he was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Despite everything, Cole is facing his battle with incredible bravery. He started his first round of very intensive chemotherapy this week at McMaster Children's Hospital, and we know there's a challenging road ahead.

Cole and I have always had a special relationship. Growing up we were always extremely close - we never even had petty fights when we were kids as most siblings do. We have always been a team for as long as I can remember. He is my best friend, and his well-being means everything to me. However, this journey is taking a toll on our family, both emotionally and financially.

My parents have already spent hundreds of dollars on gas and parking alone, commuting to be with Cole at the hospital. Neither of them are working right now as our priority is being present for each other and Cole. On top of everything occurring, I am attempting to complete the final year of my undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph. To add to the challenges, our grandmother had a heart attack just a week before Cole's diagnosis. She was discharged two days before Cole was admitted, and as she recovers, she has temporarily moved in with us. As a dialysis patient who is unable to walk on her own due to her heart attack, caring for both her and Cole has stretched us to our limits.

We're reaching out for support from those who are able. Every little bit counts. Your contribution will help cover medical expenses that are not covered by OHIP, travel costs, help keep Cole comfortable in the hospital, and provide much-needed relief for our family during this trying time.
