• YOUTH VILLAGE TREE PLANTING PROJECT
• BACK-TO-SCHOOL DRIVE
• WELL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
• …and a COMMUNITY CULTURAL CENTER!
These are some of the amazing children from the village of Agnam Thiodaye, Senegal. How do I know of them you ask? Well…
I spent the summer of 2010 studying abroad in Senegal, West Africa. We partnered with a group of local university students who were also studying sustainable development, which is where I met Mouhamadou Deme.
Since that summer, he has gone on to become an advocate and coordinator for his home village of Agnam Thiodaye, in northeastern Senegal. With the climate crisis ramping up, they are experiencing extreme heat and drought, resulting in large dust storms, decreasing crop yield, and dwindling potable water sources.
Mouhamadou has stepped up to make a difference in his community by leading a YOUTH VILLAGE TREE PLANTING PROJECT, where they plant trees at schools and public spaces. They want to create shade, soak up carbon dioxide, and teach the kids about the importance of plants. Phase one is already complete!
Secondly, he is leading a BACK-TO-SCHOOL DRIVE where they will give school supplies to local children, donate materials to classrooms, and make necessary repairs.
Also in the works is a WELL CONSTRUCTION PROJECT to make clean water more accessible, and a COMMUNITY CULTURAL CENTER to increase indigenous knowledge. Amazing!
Mouhamadou has big dreams for his small village, so please join me in supporting his vision! Let’s stand behind him by making a donation as he steps up to #bethechange!
*Funds will be used to buy trees, watering tools, fencing, school and classroom supplies, and building materials.
Mouhamadou and his village are so grateful for your support!
THANK YOU!!!
