Colby’s Recovery & Medical Expenses

Hi! My Name is Kailyn Nelson and I am organizing this fundraiser for my close friends, Leanne and Marcus Oden- my hope is to raise enough money for their 5 year old son, Colby’s medical expenses.

Colby Oden is the most lovable 5 year old boy and an absolute joy to all who meet him. His favorite character is Mickey Mouse. He loves to play games in his spare time, watch Lankybox on YouTube, and practice reading early learner books. Colby was so excited to start Kindergarten this year & looked forward to going to school daily.

Unfortunately Colby has become critically ill. On Friday, September 9th he came down with symptoms of a cold after school. By Sunday, September 11th he expressed ear pain. On Monday, September 12th his parents brought him to the pediatrician- she did not find an ear infection. By Friday, September 16th Colby had neck swelling and was rushed to Boston Children’s Hospital for further evaluation.

A CT scan, 2 full MRI’s, and a vent scan later- Colby was found to have mastoiditis (an infection of the bony air cells in the mastoid bone) in both ears resulting in surgeries to have both mastoids removed. Additionally, he was diagnosed with a right side thrombosis (blood clot) affecting blood flow out of his brain as well as an epidural abscess. He spent 2 weeks inpatient at Boston Children’s Hospital form 9/16-9/30.

The story unfortunately does not end here. Colby went home with his parents to be reunited with his 4 year old sister, Dakota. While outpatient, Colby developed an inward turned left eye which was found out at his Ophthalmology appointment on Tuesday, October 11th to be a result of optic nerve pressure that affected his brain.

He has been readmitted to Boston Children’s Hospital where he is currently inpatient in the Intensive Care Unit undergoing multiple surgeries to relieve the pressure.

Parents should not have to go into debt to take care and be there for their ill child- the money raised by this platform is going to go towards Colby’s medical expenses, medications, treatment and any other necessities to allow him to recover. Colby is an absolute real-life superhero and has such a bright future ahead of him. He absolutely loves animals and wants to be a zookeeper or vet when he gets older- we can’t wait to see him reach those goals! Please keep him in your thoughts and every little bit helps.
