My name is Colby. This morning, I received the worst news imaginable—my father passed away at Bronson Hospital in Paw Paw, MI, while I was on my way to see him. Although I didn’t make it in time, I am grateful that we spent last night together, sharing his favorite treat: vanilla ice cream with Hershey syrup and a refreshing Pepsi. Those memories are now more precious than ever.

My father, Dave, was 61 years old. He didn’t have many assets or much money, but his love for me was always clear and never measured by material things. Now, as his only child, I am facing the responsibility of honoring his wishes for cremation and a memorial. With both of his parents already passed, I am left to manage these expenses on my own at 23 years old.
