Help Cody say FU to Lymphoma (Cancer)

My Shihtzu Cody was diagnosed with Lymphoma (Cancer) on Monday, June 15th. He had developed a golf-ball sized lump on the left side of his throat, and one that is about half that size right behind it, and one about half THAT size on the right side.   Other than being super bummed out and tired from the vet meds, he’s still into treats and still has little spurts of energy.  It’s been really hard to watch him slow down so quickly and it’s pretty obvious that he is having some breathing problems.  He needs help.  I don't want to be a burden to anyone especially with the hardship everyone is experiencing, but anything helps.

There are many SUPER expensive options to treat Cody that range in the THOUSANDS of dollars.  I am not comfortable financially committing to that, and I really do not want my boy to suffer.



After talking to the Oncologist yesterday, I have decided that the best quality of life improvement will be a combination of a CCNU and Vincristine.  With the consultation, the bill for this will be about $1000 TO START (he will probably require a bit of maintenance afterwards) but should improve Cody’s condition and hopefully get him into remission.  That will at least buy him some more time to figure out the next steps. 

 

Unfortunately, this is not a cure, and nothing is guaranteed.  Every dog reacts differently to treatment.  This route just seems like the most bang for the buck as far as all parties involved.  Once we get Cody hopefully stabilized and improved, I am going to look for some alternative things to keep him as happy and healthy as long as I can.
