Cody’s life changed forever when he came down with the flu on Dec 16th. The virus attacked his heart, and he was airlifted to St Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver on Dec 19th. The Cardiac team confirmed that his heart was only functioning at 10% of capacity and installed an impella pump in his heart to help it pump blood to his organs and limbs. He has been getting phenomenal, constant care in the Cardiac ICU. On Dec 20th a biopsy of his heart was performed, and it was determined on Dec 22nd that he would need open heart surgery to install a different, more powerful pump. The surgical team is hopeful, but it will take time to know how much permanent damage was done.
Cody is 24 years old and has always been very active with life, sports and the work he loves. He lives in Nanaimo with his girlfriend Paige and their new puppy Sammy. Cody is a young man who is always willing to help others.
Now Cody needs our help.
He is keeping a very positive attitude but is looking at a long road to recovery. The coming months will require great financial support. Cody and a caregiver will need to reside in the lower mainland close to St Paul’s cardiac unit while he recovers. We want him to focus on his health and his recovery and not focus on the financial stress this sudden shock has created for him.
This fund is intended to help cover housing and living costs while in Vancouver, close to St Paul’s cardiac unit.
We appreciate any help you can give.
