Help Cody Recover After His Serious Accident
On Thursday night, my brother Cody had a terrible accident at home when he tripped over a baby gate and fell down the stairs.
The fall left him with a broken C5 vertebra and a shattered C4 vertebra.
He was taken to Tamworth Base hospital and then flown to John Hunter Hospital on Friday, where he underwent emergency surgery to remove the damaged bones and replace them with a titanium cage in his neck.
The doctors told us just how lucky Cody was — the fractures were only millimetres away from his spinal cord, which could have left him permanently paralysed.
Although we’re incredibly grateful he’s alive and still has movement, Cody faces a long and difficult road to recovery. He’s been told he’ll need to be on bed rest for 6–12 months, which means he won’t be able to work or support himself or his family for quite some time.
This accident will also have a huge impact on Cody’s mental health. Before the fall, he was a fit and active young man who loved boxing and keeping himself healthy. Going from being so independent and energetic to now facing months of bed rest and recovery will be incredibly tough for him, both physically and emotionally.
We know it will take time and support for Cody to adjust and rebuild his strength and confidence.
We’re starting this GoFundMe to help cover his medical expenses, rehabilitation, and everyday living costs while he focuses on healing. Any donation, no matter how small, will help take some of the financial pressure off and allow Cody to focus on what matters most — getting better.
Thank you so much for your love, support, and generosity during this challenging time.
The Vitalone Family.
