Hi! I’m Cody and the other guy you see in the photo is my service animal and best buddy, Tucker Riley. I am 33 years old, live in Montana, and here’s my story:
A few years ago, I was in a work accident that left me with a broken back, unable to complete daily activities without being in severe physical pain. Not being able to work and provide for myself put me in a physical, mental, emotional and even spiritual depression - especially when living alone during a Montana winter.
Since my work injury, I’ve worked a few one-off jobs that didn’t require physical labor in an effort to pay bills. Then the economic crisis hit, causing a large decrease in the workforce.
In 2019, we experienced a loss in housing due to electrical fire.
In 2020, I survived Covid but was left with the medical bills.
Sadly, the medical bills and every day living bills (rent, electricity) don’t stop coming in when you’re unable to work and it’s put us in a financial crisis.
Our journey the past few years has been difficult. There have been many days where taking my life sounded like the better option; but I’ve made it through and I am still thankful. I’m thankful because it has taught me that I’m stronger than I knew, that I can trust others, and it has brought me back to knowing God.
My goals for 2021/2022 are:
- Get out of the negatives
- Be able to buy groceries without worrying about debit card declining
- Not have to worry every month when rent is due
- Return the favor when able
I’m reaching out, asking others for help because I don’t know what else to do. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.
