“Help Cody in the fight of his life!”

Hello! I truly appreciate you taking a moment to read my sons story. My name is Kathy, mother of Cody, who is my only child, fighting for his life while waiting for a dual lung transplant.
Cody’s Story:
June of 2022, he went to the hospital after several days of having difficulty breathing. Upon arrival, his oxygen levels were in the upper 70’s low 80’s. After he was examined, they removed 1.9 liters of fluid off of his lungs, treated him for pneumonia, where he spent 3 days in the hospital. Thinking that he was better, a couple weeks after his release, he returns back to the hospital with difficulty breathing again. Hospitalized now 5 days, they removed 2.1 liters of fluid off his right lung, treated him again for pneumonia, brought a pulmonologist in who specializes in the respiratory system along with a infectious disease specialist. Between July 2022 and September 2022, he has had multiple trips to the ER, 1 additional hospitalization where they removed another 1.5 liters of fluid of his lungs. October of 2022 after his 4th hospitalization with still no answers, doctors decided to do a Bronchoscopy of his lungs to determine if there is cancer. After having the Bronchoscopy, no cancer was found. End of October 2022, he returns back to the hospital with difficulty breathing, where they found fluid again on his lungs. During hospitalization, a Thoracic and Cardiovascular surgeon with special training to operate on organs inside the chest, is now doing a 2nd biopsy removing 3 pieces of his right lung. These biopsies were sent to a lab in Michigan, where they have concluded that my son has PVOD.
PVOD known as Pulmonary Veno-Occlusive Disease, is characterized by the blockage of the blood vessels that carry oxygen- rich blood from the lungs to the heart’s pulmonary veins. The disease is a very rare, fatal, rapid disease which occurs in approximately one to two patients per 10 million people. There is currently no known effective medical treatment other than a lung transplant.
2023 Update:
January 2023, Cody was sent to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for further testing. Unfortunatley, he become extremely ill, was hospitalized for 7 days, five of those days were in the ICU. Their conclusion was the same diagnosis, that he receives a lung transplant. Upon returning home, he was been placed on oxygen 24/7, blood thinners to prevent clotting, medication to try helping control his Pulmonary Hypertension, and is unable to work. April 2023, he has convened with Organ Transplant Center, which includes multiple visits each month. May 2023 to June 2023, the amount of Oxygen required has increased from 5 to 10 liters flowing consistent. Doctors concluded that his condition has become progressively worse.
The money donated here will help cover Cody’s medical expenses, including daily medication prior to and after transplant, Pulmonary rehabilitation, travel expenses and any other necessary medical expenses required for his recovery.
Any amount you’re willing to contribute is so greatly appreciated. If you’re unable to contribute at this time, a share with your friends and family would mean the world to us as well.
Thank you!
