My name is Misty and I am fundraising for my Godson, Cody. He needs to have 50% of the cost of his thyroid cancer surgery in hand before the hospital will consent to do this potentially life saving surgery. This diagnosis comes at a time when he is being treated for other very serious medical issues and just compounds the urgency behind his financial needs.

 

To keep employer sponsored health insurance, you have to pay for COBRA. COBRA is expensive. You have to have income to pay for COBRA...see the vicious cycle that exists??? He has applied for state assistance through Missouri Medicaid, but they have a minimum 6 week back log for processing applications. No one who loves him is comfortable being a subject of their timeline. Cancer is an unpredictable monster.

 

I always was under the impression that hospitals could not deny you treatment based upon your ability to pay, however payment up front is a reality with every hospital he has contacted. Just like health insurance the hospitals are a business and losing money doesn't look good for their bottom line. He has applied for financial assistance with the two local hospitals, which if approved will help with the cost of the surgery/treatment. But there will still be medical charges he is responsible for as they don't forgive 100%.

 

I could go on and on about how deserving this young man is of your support. He is a single father to a beautiful little girl who deserves to have her daddy around for many years to come.
