For many children, playing soccer is more than just a game - it’s a place where they learn discipline, teamwork, confidence, and hope. But for many young players, something as simple as a pair of soccer shoes or proper gear can stand in the way of that opportunity.

In Cebu, one coach has spent his life making sure that doesn’t stop kids from playing.

Coach Manuel Gerardo Dumangas, known to many as Coach “Oloy,” is one of Cebu’s longest-serving and most respected football coaches. Now in his 50s, he has dedicated decades of his life to teaching and mentoring young athletes through football.

What truly makes Coach Oloy special is his selfless heart for the kids he trains.

Whether families can afford coaching fees or not, Coach Oloy continues to welcome every child who wants to learn the sport. Many times, he even spends his own money to provide snacks for the children after training—simply because he wants them to feel encouraged, supported, and excited to keep playing.

This year marks a new chapter in Coach Oloy’s journey.

He has been given the opportunity to adopt a school and build his own football club from the ground up. His vision is simple but powerful:

To give young players a place where they can learn football, build confidence, develop discipline, and stay inspired through sport.

However, many of the children who want to join the team come from families who cannot afford basic soccer equipment.
