Help Coach Kim stay with Stanford Taekwondo

Hi there! We are alumni of the Stanford Taekwondo program and we are raising money to keep Coach Dongyoung Kim with the program.

Coach Kim has been an integral part of the Stanford Taekwondo program for years; he first started with the club in 2013 as one of the first interns in our partnership with the Korean National Sports University (KNSU). Alongside former Head Coach Tim Ghormley and other assistant coaches, he guided Stanford Taekwondo to winning the club’s 1st National Collegiate Championship. In 2017, he returned as a student and volunteer assistant coach. Then again, under his coaching, the club won the 2018 National Collegiate Championship.

Coach Kim himself is an outstanding athlete and has contributed to every level of the program, from beginner and competitive team practices to planning and setting up major team events including scrimmages and the club’s annual Spring Open. In fact, the week-long spring break trip to Korea in 2019 was largely planned by Coach Kim. Additionally, his contribution to the program at the height of the COVID pandemic was invaluable. He led online zoom practices 4 times a week, keeping the program running during a time when everyone needed exercise and human connection the most.

Coach Kim has thus far been on a student visa; however, his visa recently expired in December. In order for him to continue coaching, he needs a new visa. This comes with legal fees and filing fees for the visa to be processed and expedited. Unfortunately, due to the COVID pandemic, the program has not been able to raise funds as usual. Thus, we are turning to the community for help.

We ask for your generous support so Coach Kim can continue as a coach with the club. The program’s success would not be possible without Coach Kim’s help, and we strongly wish for him to continue coaching the club. If you are able to donate anything at all, we would appreciate it so much!
