Support Baseball Coach Jim Shultz fight against cancer

When you think of Northern baseball, you think of Jim Shultz. He has the respect of the players and fellow coaches throughout central PA. He’s the selfless coach who always goes above and beyond for the program and his players. He’s quick with a joke, dugout banter, and enjoys the team comradery as much as anyone. He has thrown countless rounds of BP, swings a mean fungo, & works tirelessly prepping the field so our players have the best playing surface possible. We can confidently say, that Northern Baseball would not be successful without him.

We recently learned that our friend and fellow Northerns baseball coach Jim Shultz was diagnosed with Oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. This type of cancer affects the neck and back of the throat. Upon informing the coach of his diagnosis, he said, “I don’t want anyone to feel bad for me. I’m going to beat this and get back on field as soon as I can.”

Jim is a Dillsburg resident, Northern graduate and former two sport star in football and baseball. He has served as a baseball coach at Northern HS for 17 years. “Shultzie” has served as an integral part and success of the Northern baseball program throughout the years. This includes numerous conference championships and a 2011 State Championship. He has mentored numerous former players who went on to have successful collegiate & professional careers.

Because Jim has done so much for so many associated with Northern, we want Northern Nation to show their support to him. Coach Shultz is as tough as nails and wouldn’t ask for anything, so we want to show our love to him with our support to make his fight and recovery as easy as possible. Jim has been traveling daily to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for radiation and chemotherapy treatments. He started his treatments 6 weeks ago. Costs associated with travel and medical bills have been accumulating. Our community and baseball family has always been loving and generous for those in need, so I ask you to give what you can.
