Help Coach Jay

Donation protected
So here's my dad.  Many of you know him.  Many of you have coached with him, been coached by him, or have seen your kids flourish on one of his teams.  As far back as I can remember, despite struggling with his own issues, he has been helping people.

He's spent hours in hot, sweaty gyms teaching me to perfect my hook shot.  He will run after rebounds for you, ignoring the pain in his knees from Marine Corps injuries.  If you've ever been at a practice with my dad, you'll see him running up and down the court to scrimmage with you or your player, sacrificing himself.

My dad has spent hours out in the blazing August sunshine, showing young men (and one girl) how to tackle properly, how to read the field, and how to keep their chin up in the face of defeat.  What you don't know is this - look at any picture of him outside during the day and you'll see him wearing sunglasses.  This is because the sunlight and the heat cause him to get excruciating migraines, due to a head injury he suffered during his service in the Marine Corps.  You don't see that, when he's out there coaching, but hours later, at home with an ice pack over his forehead, our family did.

He is the first to help you move, to bring his truck, to help you fix that problem you had with your computer.  If you come to him with an issue he will stop at nothing to help you solve it.  He will tell you to smile, keep your chin up, and put on a brave face for everything you do.

As long as I've known my dad, he has been helping people.  But now it's time for me to help him.  I wish that I could give him everything because that's what he's given to me, but I'm going to need some help.

Weeks ago, my dad received a call that he was hired on as a high school basketball coach at a school an hour away.  This has always been my dad's dream - he has been coaching since I was eleven years old, and though I personally have always imagined him as an NFL coach, I can see that this is a step in the right direction.

My dad is a disabled veteran, and moving is expensive.  In the past weeks, my dad has been scrambling to sell his things and come up with money we just don't have.  The school year is starting soon.  The bank is asking for cash, and this is where we might be able to help him.

If you have ever been coached by my dad, or if he has ever gone out of his way to lift you up or fix something in your life, please consider giving just $5 to help him now.  I know my dad, and I know that there are enough of us willing to help him now to get him where he needs to go.
