The Roof of Hope

In Vanadzor, Armenia, beside a quiet park and School #11, there once stood a forgotten tennis court — cracked, overgrown, and abandoned.

Then came Henrik Arsenyan, a local coach who loved tennis and believed every child deserved a place to find hope. With no funding or sponsors — just two bare hands and a desire to create opportunities for local kids — he painted lines, repaired fences, gathered equipment, and brought life back to a place everyone had given up on.

What happened next was nothing short of extraordinary. Coach Henrik soon realized he hadn’t just rebuilt a court — he had created a community and given hope to countless families. Children from rural areas who had never held a racket before began to play. Those with special needs found confidence and joy, discovering a space of acceptance and belonging.

The once-forgotten schoolyard became the heart of Vanadzor Tennis Academy — a place of inclusion, growth, and connection. For many children with autism and other special needs, it became a sanctuary — one of the few places in the region where they felt truly welcomed and could discover abilities they never knew they had.

Today, thanks to Coach Henrik’s determination, there are three community courts in the Lori region — all built by his own hands — three coaches trained by him, and over 120 local families whose children now see Vanadzor as a place where futures can be built. Created with almost no resources but endless heart, these courts are filled with movement, laughter, and purpose.

But each year, the fierce winters of Lori force them to close — and when the snow falls, the children wait. They wait for warmth, for movement, for connection. Their progress fades, and the joy that once filled the courts goes silent.

Henrik’s dream is simple yet life-changing: to build a roof over one court so these children can play, learn, and thrive all year long — no matter the season. A covered court would mean therapy, friendship, and hope that never has to pause.

Օգնեք մարզիչ Հենրիկին կառուցել հույսի տանիքը

Երբ Հենրիկ Արսենյանը որոշեց վերակենդանացնել Վանաձորի թենիսի կորտը չուներ ոչինչ՝ գումար, հատուկ պլան, հովանավորներ կամ օգնականներ։ Բայց ուներ նպատակ, կամ ավելի ճիշտ՝ երազանք. վերակառուցել բարձր մակարդակի թենիսի կորտ, որը կլիներ միակը Լոռու մարզում։

Նա ոչ միայն կարողացավ կառուցել այդ կորտը, այլև քաղաքը նրան թույլ տվեց ևս երկուսն ավելացնել, և այսօր այստեղ մարզվում են մոտ 120 երեխա, որոնց կեսը հատուկ կարիքներով երեխաներ են։

Ամեն ինչ հոյակապ է ապրիլից նոյեմբեր, սակայն երբ գալիս է նոյեմբերը, երեխաները պարտադիր արձակուրդի են գնում՝ մինչև ապրիլ, այսինքն՝ մինչև ձյունը հալչի և նրանք կարողանան նորից դուրս գալ դաշտ մարզվելու։

Այդ ընդմիջումը երկար է։ Վեց ամիս։ Վեց ամիս, երբ երեխաները կորցնում են իրենց առաջընթացը, իրենց ռիթմը, այն ամենը, ինչ նրանք այդքան դժվարությամբ են ձեռք բերել։ Իսկ Հենրիկը սպասում է։

Մեր այս նախաձեռնության նպատակը մեկն է՝ կառուցել տանիք, փակ կորտ, որպեսզի երեխաները կարողանան կլոր տարի զբաղվել թենիսով։

Այդ նպատակի համար պետք է հավաքել մոտ 60,000 դոլար։ Այս կորտերը պետք են Վանաձորին, Լոռու մարզին և Հայաստանին։ Քանի որ կտան մեզ հույս, որ իսկապես մենք կարող ենք Հենրիկի երազանքը մինչև վերջ իրագործել, և իհարկե՝ կոնկրետ նպաստել, որ մեր երեխաները նույնպես հավատան ու իսկապես տեսնեն, որ ամեն ինչ հնարավոր է։

Ձեր ամեն ներդրումը՝ փոքր թե մեծ, կգնա ուղղակի տանիքի կառուցմանը։ Կառուցմանը, որ կպահպանի այն, ինչ Հենրիկը շինել է իր ձեռքերով՝ մի տարածություն, որտեղ երեխաները կարող են զգալ ինքնավստահ և ազատ։

Սա պարզապես մարզասրահ չէ։ Սա մի տեղ է, որտեղ երեխաները սովորում են հաղթել՝ ոչ թե մրցակցին, այլ իրենց վախերը։ Որտեղ ծնողները տեսնում են իրենց երեխաների աչքերում այն փայլը, որի համար արժե ապրել։
