Hello Gany fans. I have unfortunate news about our Clove. If you saw my story from a week ago we found a lump on her stomach by a nipple and went in for a needle diagnostic. It came back malignant. We do not know yet if we caught the cancer early or if it has progressed. She is scheduled for a surgery next Wednesday (a mastectomy, technically, to remove the tumor and other mammary glands). This is very expensive obviously so I am setting up another fundraiser for donations for her medical costs- details on the gofundme page. They will be assessing to see if the cancer has progressed or not which will determine her prognosis.
Feline mammary (breast cancer) is much more likely in female cats who were spayed later and Clove was a few years old and pregnant when we took her in with her son from a previous litter (Woolly Bear) If you have a female cat who has been pregnant before you should monitor their nipple area as they age. Spaying early significantly reduces the risk.
