♿ Help Me Get Back My Independence: Funding a New Wheelchair!!

Hi everyone,

My name is Clint Laird, and I'm reaching out to my community, friends, and anyone who believes in the power of mobility and independence, with a heartfelt request. I am currently fundraising to purchase a new, essential piece of equipment: a custom, lightweight, and modern wheelchair that will fit my needs.

My Current Situation

For 20-years, my current wheelchair has been my lifeline, allowing me to navigate my world—from attending appointments and work to spending time with loved ones.

Unfortunately, it has reached the end of its functional life.

• It's failing: The frame is becoming unstable, the brakes are unreliable, and the constant need for expensive repairs means it's now more of a risk than a reliable tool.

• It's heavy and cumbersome: My current chair is incredibly heavy, making it difficult for me to self-propel over even short distances and extremely challenging for caregivers or family members to lift into a vehicle. This limits my ability to leave the house independently.

• It's no longer ergonomic: The fit is causing increasing discomfort and pain, which impacts my legs and causes regular irritations and infections, altering my daily life and overall health.

The Need for a New Chair

A modern, properly fitted wheelchair is not a luxury; it is a medical necessity that directly impacts my quality of life and my ability to participate fully in my community.

The new chair I am fundraising for is a custom-fitted TiLite TiLite ZR Series 2, ultralightweight, with a frame that will allow me to get through the hallways of my single wide mobile home; that will provide:

1. True Independence: A lighter, more efficient chair will allow me to propel myself much easier, meaning more access to my community, errands, and social life.

2. Health and Comfort: The correct ergonomic fit will alleviate pain, prevent future injuries (like shoulder strain), and significantly improve my posture and comfort throughout the day.

3. Reliability: A new chair means no more worries about sudden breakdowns or expensive, unexpected repair bills.

The Goal

The total cost for the custom-fitted wheelchair, including specialized seating and necessary accessories, is $6,580.39. I have $3,000 towards the purchase of this new wheelchair. Which still leaves me with a significant out-of-pocket gap that I need help to fill.
