Help Cliff Canyon Heal After His Fall
Donation protected
We are looking for assistance with funding a necessary surgery for a sweet pup we rescued in Monument Valley while we were camping recently. We were about to leave our campsite when we heard an animal howling and wailing from one of the nearby canyons. We searched for the source of the sound and discovered a crumpled brown dog laying in a crevice at the bottom of a canyon. When we approached, a sweet face looked up with a desperate but grateful demeanor, and he wagged his tail. It was as if he was saying, "Thank you for finding me!" Both of his front paws/forelegs were very swollen and he was dripping blood from a wound on his chin. He could not stand-up or walk at all. We carefully carried him to our RV to render aid. He was panting and thirsty and seemed to be in much pain but amazingly he continued wagging his tail in apparent gratitude. We took his photo to the RV park owners to see if they knew who he belonged to and they did not recognize him. We were told that there are often stray dogs that try and survive in the area and that veterinary services were not available locally. He appeared to be a stray or uncared for dog, evidenced by the many scrapes, scratches, and ticks all over his body. He was absent i.d. tags and was un-neutered. We knew that he would likely die if we just left him so we quickly decided to bring him home to Albuquerque. When he was examined by an orthopedic vet in Albuquerque she confirmed lack of a microchip and believed that he most likely had fallen off of a cliff into the canyon. So we named him Cliff Canyon. He broke the metacarpal bones in both front paws as well as sustaining a right compound fracture. We found out that his injuries were way too extensive to effectively heal on their own. He will have a more successful and functional recovery with a procedure called pancarpal arthrodesis on both paws. We are both retired occupational therapists and committed to assisting him in his rest and recovery throughout the process. We appreciate any amount that you're inclined to donate and thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Cliff Canyon thanks you as well with a smile and exuberant tail wag.
BTW - the staff at the veterinary clinic just love his happy and grateful demeanor in the face of such trauma.
PS- If you would like to stay informed about his recovery process, let us know as we will post and share.
