Hello everyone, our beautiful 2-year-old Labrador, Cleo, was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer last week. This has come as such a massive shock to us, as Cleo is an otherwise happy, healthy, and energetic girl. We are absolutely devastated as she is our entire world, and we would be lost without her.
We noticed Cleo was limping over a month ago whilst playing with some dogs in our neighbourhood. It wasn’t clear exactly what was wrong with her, so she was prescribed plenty of rest and some anti-inflammatory meds by our local vet. Unfortunately, the weeks went by, and she wasn’t getting any better. After multiple vet visits, two CT scans, a biopsy, and a consultation with a specialist, we discovered that she has a tumour in her left shoulder blade that will need to be removed with surgery. We’ve set up this fundraiser to ask for help in funding Cleo’s surgery, which is booked in for Thursday 6th July, and will cost around £5,000.
We do have pet insurance, but the vet fee limit is £3,000, and this has just about covered the cost of one full-body CT scan. We have already paid out an additional £2,000 to cover the cost of other vet fees, scans and tests just to get her diagnosed. Cleo is our first dog, so we had no idea how expensive vet fees could be. Maybe we were naïve, but we expected £3,000 would be enough cover for her at this age. There was just no way of predicting something like this would happen.
We are still waiting for results that will tell us specifically what type of cancer Cleo has and will determine what kind of treatment will be necessary. If she needs chemo, this will raise her vet bills substantially. Not to mention the cost of regularly transporting her to and from the hospital, which is 35 miles from our home, without a car of our own.
Creating this page was a difficult decision for us as we really don’t want to ask for money, but we need to act quickly to make sure Cleo gets the best care possible, and increase her chances of living a long, happy life. We would be eternally grateful for any help we can get, so please consider donating anything you can spare. If you can’t donate then we completely understand, but please share Cleo’s page.
Lots of Love,
Christina, Luke & Cleo
**EDIT**
Hello to anyone coming across this page for the first time. Since starting this fundraiser, Cleo has successfully undergone surgery to remove her tumour and is recovering well. However, her official diagnosis is Osteosarcoma, which is an aggressive form of bone cancer, and requires chemotherapy. Following this diagnosis, we have raised our fundraising goal to cover Cleo’s treatment costs. Please see the updates below for full details of Cleo’s journey.
