As many of you know, at 6 months old, Clementine Newton-Thompson sustained a non traumatic spinal cord injury caused by the common cold producing antibodies that attacked her spinal cord. A spinal cord injury, like what Clementine sustained, is a lifelong recovery process. Specialized Rehabilitation Equipment can help in the recovery process for people with spinal cord injuries.
To aid in that recovery, Clementine's therapists have recommended the use of an FES bike, a $25,000 piece of rehabilitation equipment. The FES bike comes highly recommended for people recovering from a spinal cord injury, and has been endorsed by organizations like the Christopher Reeves Foundation. Research has shown that the use of an FES bike for aerobic exercise improves strength and circulation as well as builds muscle mass. The use of an FES bike also improves nervous system recovery as well as contributes to overall cardiovascular health. Leading researchers, doctors, and foundations specializing in spinal cord injury recommend use of the FES bike to patients to improve their recovery outcomes. Unfortunately, the FES bike is not currently covered by most insurances or Idaho Medicaid.
If you're able to help contribute, please do. This tool will be very helpful to Clementine.
