help an indigenous trans person recover from top surgery!

Hey y'all!

A lot of you may know that I've been on a waitlist for a little bit over two years now for top surgery. Well, I got the exciting news that I'm next on the waitlist, and my surgery is officially scheduled for April 30th!

This is much sooner than I ever anticipated and I couldn't be more excited, but it also came at a time where it's incredibly unrealistic to save for, especially when I live check to check already. My sister passed in September which interrupted work for me as well and I've been playing constant catch up on bills these past 6 months.

I'm a full-time nanny and have been for my whole adulthood, and this surgery will put me out of work for approximately 6 weeks. Could be more, it could be less, but this is what's anticipated. Nannying is a very strenuous job; it requires loads of energy and lots of physical activity, including carrying babies, toddlers, and sometimes even young children! I care for babies and toddlers, which demands loads of carrying, picking up lots of stuff off the floor, and chest contact for my many contact nappers. So because of the job I have, I'll be out of work for much longer than someone who works a desk job.

All funds will go directly towards lodging (this is out of town and I will need to relocate for at least 5 days, hoping for a week minimum), as well as rent, bills, post-op necessities, and basic necessities as I'll be missing out on over a month's pay.

I can't begin to express how excited and relieved I am. I've been waiting so long for this, it still doesn't feel real. I truly can't believe the day has come.

There's such a small percentage of Indigenous people receiving gender affirming care, so this really means more than anything to me as a First Nation, two spirit person.
