My local school district (Alvin ISD) has 1,972 students who owe money on their lunch accounts, totaling $17,987.78. When I was a kid, having a negative balance meant you couldn't get the regular hot lunch - you got a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or cheese sandwich instead. No student should have to experience that distinction during what should just be a normal part of their school day. When we clear this debt, we're making sure every kid can walk through that lunch line without that weight on them.
The goal is simple: every student should be able to eat lunch without worrying about their account balance. Your donation helps us wipe this slate clean so all 1,972 kids can just be kids during lunchtime. No matter how much you can contribute, you're helping remove a barrier that no child should have to think about during their school day.
I am working directly with Jennifer Odom, Assistant Director of AISD's Child Nutrition Department. Once the goal is reached, 100% of the funds raised will be transferred directly to the Child Nutrition Department, where they will be applied to eliminate outstanding student lunch debt.
