Help clear an emergency hospital bill for Irene

Posting on behalf of a college friend, who has been a tireless fundraiser for others in need & has been on an unlucky streak of bad health herself:

"I am Irene Ndibo, BMC 1996. I was diagnosed with pneumonia in December 2022 and was hospitalized for 2 weeks in Nairobi. Many of you helped me through this period. I was again recently diagnosed with acute gastritis and had emergency gall bladder surgery one week ago, and was also found to have multiple fibroids inside my uterus. I just also turned 50 on December 30, 2022, so this was a complete shock to me. Unfortunately, my local health insurance won't cover my recent surgeries which were done laproscopically on March 17, 2023, as they claim that these were pre-existing conditions. I am facing a bill of USD $ 6,500 and have all the medical records. This was and is a complete emergency and shock to me.

I am starting this fundraiser on behalf of Irene to clear her medical bill as she looks for a new, more comprehensive insurance plan for the future. She shared in a Bryn Mawr-related FB group that she was on day 8 in Nairobi Hospital in Nairobi Kenya, and cannot leave until she pays her bill in full. She would appreciate any assistance to clear her bills and get on with the healing process. (Irene cannot set up GFM for herself because she doesn't have a US bank account.) She has offered to send copies of the hospital bills to me for verification of her need for help.
