Help Clean Our Waterways Round 2

Hi! My name is Alice Wilson, also known by my artist & performer name Ginger Whimsy. In 2020, due to the pandemic I had to find an alternative form of income when nearly all of my living statue performances, events, and art modeling sessions were canceled. Hours were cut way back at the church I cleaned as well.

I’m a huge proponent of reducing plastic waste, properly recycling/disposing of what we do use, and trying to prevent waste from littering our waterways. I did a go fund me to pay myself and others whenever possible to clean waste and recyclables from the Milwaukee, Menominee, and Kinnickinnic Rivers via kayaking. From June to September of 2020, with the help of nearly 10 other out of work friends, we removed approximately 175 bags of garbage and nearly as many bags of recyclables from the rivers. In addition to that at least 20 needles were removed from the water by me and my friends.

I plan to move back to Milwaukee this Spring and by the end of May would like to start doing this again. I still have kayaks in Milwaukee that are graciously being stored by Milwaukee Kayak Co.

The plan is the same. To kayak the river as many times as schedules and weather will allow each week & have someone who is out of work & needs the pay to join me & pay them.

In 2021 I relocated to IL and things have not gone as planned. I am working hard to relocate back to Milwaukee by Spring of 2022. This will help me get back and help others again as this pandemic continues.
