Help Clayton Recover from Brain Surgery
Donation protected
I'm Alexis, my husband is Anthony. We have 3 beautiful little boys who are our world.
On 10/22/2021, we were in a terrible car accident that completely changed our lives, mostly our oldest son who was 4 at the time. He is 7 now.
2/3 of our boys suffered a traumatic brain injury. Clayton, our oldest, was on life support for 2+ weeks and unfortunately suffered a massive stroke. By the grace of God, he came out of it. He was wheelchair-bound for many months. He’s worked hard through therapy day in and day out and started walking again. Not “normal,” but most days he tries to run. We have had many hard days but also good days.
Severe epilepsy came with the TBI & stroke. He has been struggling with seizures since day 1. We have tried many meds, but nothing has controlled them. Last September, Anthony and I made the decision to switch care to Cincinnati Children’s to seek more help.
After 4 months of seeing them, Clayton was referred & evaluated by the epilepsy team and had many tests run. At the end of that all, they said he needed a right functional hemispherectomy. A pretty big invasive brain surgery, but we and our team of doctors have high hopes of seizure freedom.
Unfortunately, with that type of surgery, we are looking at a lengthy recovery and inpatient rehab stay in the hospital. Estimated 4+ weeks.
We all know the world doesn’t stop when going through such a hard time. We will have no income. We were granted FMLA, but unpaid. While dealing with all the things at the hospital, we still have to keep up with our bills at home.
We appreciate and are grateful for all of the support we’ve received & going forward.
