UPDATE:
Claus was showing signs of sepsis, so the vet ended up breaking office protocol, and performing surgery without us having all required funding in place first.

His recovery is going very slow, which, considering how invasive the surgery was, isn’t too surprising. Pain Management has been a challenge, and he almost seems a tad depressed. Hopefully our boy bounces back soon.

We want to thank everyone who keeps showering Claus with so much love, support, and financial kindness.

Not too long ago, our gaggle of kids dragged home a bunch of cat toys from a neighbor whose cat had just passed. Sometime earlier this week, Claus, unbeknownst to us, swallowed one of the cat toy balls whole. Seemingly out of nowhere he developed severe symptoms, and we rushed him to the ER. An x-ray quickly discovered the culprit, however we could not afford the 100% down payment of the low range estimate for the surgery, and $700 later, we left AMA (against medical advice).
We took Claus to another Animal Hospital, and the vet there believed he could push IV fluids in hopes of him passing the ball on his own. After a night at the hospital, his stomach full to the brim with fluids, another x-ray showed that the ball is not moving. Claus is extremely uncomfortable, and in desperate need of surgery in order to save his life.
My husband is a 100% disabled vet, and money has never been tighter. We are trying really hard to not have to choose between food or saving our most beloved family dog.
