Help Claudia and Luis Rebuild After Hurricane Ian

Hello Friends,

I’m Luis and I live with my fantastic mother Claudia in Lake Suzy, Florida. On September 28th, our condo was destroyed by Hurricane Ian. We endured more than 10 agonizing hours of wind, rain, and debris that destroyed large portions of our home. After an inspection, it was deemed unfit to live in and we became displaced from our home. The same week, we found out that the condo was not going to be covered for damages outside of our association insurance. Although we have certainly felt defeated during this trying time, our determination to rebuild has been unwavering.

If anyone knows my mom Claudia, you know that she is a bright star in everyone's life. She works hard as a CNA in the hospital to make sure people are comfortable, cared for, loved, seen, and honored during their hardest moments. She worked through the pandemic and gave her all to help those who needed it most. Despite all the trials and tribulations thrown her way, she always remains positive. During the chaos the storm brought, she remained calm, determined, loving, and compassionate. I have seen her feed, help, and comfort our neighbors while our own place was crumbling down. She's my inspiration to go to nursing school, and her support has been invaluable to me throughout my life. I’m hoping you will help me support her now when she needs it most.

Although much of the damage remains to be quantified, I am raising money for her to begin the process of rebuilding. The main step we need to take is to pay out $4,600 in association deductible for work to begin on just getting a roof over our place again. The next steps would be flooring, wall, and electrical repairs, which my mom is fully responsible for covering. Finally, replacing essential furniture like our beds, bedding, clothing, and anything else that was in our bedrooms, which was all lost due to the extensive water damage from the ceiling’s collapse.

Anything you can contribute will get the process started to help rebuild our little home and get us safely back in there. In the meantime, we will also use a portion of the funds to cover any housing needs we may face while we are out of our home.
