Help Claudia care for her 91 year old mom

COVID-19 has taken so much from so many of us and continues to be a daunting factor in financial and emotional hardships in 2021. I understand there is not much to give in a time like this, but we are out of options and in a painful and desperate situation, so I’m here to pour my heart into a plea for help.

Last year, my 91-year-old mother survived the COVID-19 virus and an open-heart surgery with strenuous rehab (she is a fighter to a T) and was faced upon return to a home with people who no longer wanted to care for her. After being placed in an assisted living facility surrounded by men and absentee nurses, she developed a stage four bedsore and her death seemed imminent. I took a stand to take guardianship and finally was able to bring my mother home with me in November of 2020 where she lives HAPPILY with myself and my daughter, a single-mom currently out of work due to the pandemic, and her nine-month-old son who adores his great-grandma.

I quit my job in January 2021 to stay home and be my mother’s full-time caregiver; but now-- due to circumstances out of our control-- her assets have been frozen; leaving her unable to access her money, documents, or pay me for her care. Amidst trying to hire attorneys to resolve this awfully upsetting situation, we’ve managed financially as long as we could, but now, myself and my daughter’s accounts have been drained and I risk losing my health insurance this week due to non-payment, as well as our other house bills and rent that we simply cannot afford during this time.

My mom is the oldest living female in our family, our matriarch, our queen. Seeing her wide-spread smile across her face as she bonds with my grandson, and hearing her words of gratitude, love, and appreciation when I help her to bed each night reminds me that this is where she is meant to be- with family who loves her. Those close to us have done what they can, but we are in dire need of extra help to keep the roof over our head and warmth in our home as we wade through this unforeseen time.

If you can help in anyway, it would mean the world and more.

God bless and stay safe.
