Help Clare Heal After Double Lung Transplant

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Supporters,

I am reaching out on behalf of one of my best friends, Clarita Granda. Clare is a loving mother of two young children, a devoted sister, daughter, family member, co-worker, and a friend to so many of us. Recently, she underwent a life-saving/changing double lung transplant at UCLA Medical Center. While we are all incredibly relieved and grateful for this opportunity, the road ahead remains long.

Clare's recovery will be an arduous process. During this time, she will need a full-time, live-in caretaker.

This is where your generosity can make a direct impact:

Accommodations in LA: Clare is required to stay in Los Angeles for three months post-surgery as part of the transplant mandate. Daily she will have various doctor's appointments with specialists, tests, pulmonary rehab, physical and occupational therapy, etc. This will be a significant cost, including temporary housing/hotels, travel, transportation, and the expenses related to her ongoing medical care. She will need to maintain a germ-free environment and life. She will not be cleared to drive for at least 3 months.

Caregivers and Assistance: While Clare will be returning to work and maintaining employment she will need full-time, live-in caregivers for 1 year. They will help with an abundance of daily activities- including medical appointments, transportation, child care, cleaning, cooking, other household tasks, etc. These services are mandated and crucial as she recovers and works toward regaining her strength. The caregivers will not be able to have another occupation while providing care.

Household Expenses: Bills, groceries, cleaning, repairs, child activities, etc.

Non-covered Medical Expenses: A lot of medications, equipment, medical-grade cleaning supplies, supplements, and therapies are not covered by insurance but are a crucial part and needed for recovery.

Clare has always been a beacon of kindness, compassion, and strength. She’s touched the lives of so many people, and now, we have the opportunity to come together and offer her the same love and support she’s so generously given to all of us over the years.
