For the past two and a half years, my sweet Claire has been struggling with unexplained health issues—blurred vision when standing, freezing hands and feet, extreme exhaustion, high fevers up to 102°F, low-grade fevers for long periods of time , cough, congestion, bruising, anxiety, and mood changes. We’ve been in and out of the ER, only to be told her blood work looks “normal.” Yet, she continues to get sick often, missing out on so much of her senior year of high school.

After countless doctor visits and specialists, we finally found a major piece of the puzzle: Claire tested positive for two types of carcinogenic mold—Aspergillus and Penicillium—which have been wreaking havoc on her body. A test in her room confirmed the presence of Penicillium mold, black mold found in AVAC system. Renters and home owners insurance doesn’t cover any damaged related to mold. Our system is broken. Now, not only does she need an extensive detox protocol, ongoing medical testing and apts we will need to have the home treated before she can heal.

The financial burden of her recovery has been overwhelming. Just the initial toxin test was $800, and she still needs two more gut tests and a full detox program, which is out of pocket. Possibility of replacing furniture’.

Being sick has stolen so much from Claire—her childhood, her senior year, and her sense of normalcy. Now, she just wants to heal, and I want to give her every opportunity to do so without the added stress of financial strain.
