Hi there! My name is CJ, and I'm raising money for Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS)! This is a major next step in my transition journey, but also one that's had me hesitating because of the cost for a very long time, so I need your help to afford it!
FFS is a major milestone for many transfeminine people. While my insurance plan considers it "cosmetic" (and thus won't cover any of it), I can assure you that FFS is not about vanity; it's about finally feeling at home in my own skin. My daily experience with facial dysphoria has detrimental effects on my social life, mental health, and physical well-being. FFS would change my life by letting me look in the mirror without feeling uncertain of the face I see looking back at me, and show others the woman I wish to present myself as.
For my set of procedures, I have been quoted upwards of $22,000. I'm planning on funding this surgery in a few different ways:
- 80% insurance coverage for a tracheal shave, which is the lowest-cost procedure;
- My personal funds, which are limited;
- Personal Loans or Healthcare Credit Cards, which have high payments and interest rates; and
- The generosity of friends, family, and allies (which could be you!)
I am the primary income for myself and my partner, and have limited disposable income to cover the bills by my own means. In addition, my provider does not allow payment plans for cosmetic procedures, and requires payment-in-full two weeks before the surgery. Optimistically, this gives me two months to raise as much money as I can before reaching out to lenders. Otherwise, I risk cancelling some procedures or the surgery date altogether.
