I am trying to raise money to buy Citlali a Macbook Pro Laptop (with Applecare support) to use when she goes to college in the fall. I have been mentoring Citlali (which is Aztec for "star", or Lali for short) through the Fulfillment Fund since she was in the eighth grade. Lali had the misfortune to graduate high school in 2020, shortly after losing her grandfather to COVID-19. Lali worked very hard in school and took AP classes. She has been in a leadership group, is active in volunteering at her church, and spent a few weeks last summer mentoring other kids at a day camp. Most days in the summer, Lali babysits her little sister, Demi, while her mother is at work. She even taught her how to read and write! On our mentoring outings, Lali and I went to lots of plays and movies (she loves the performance arts), to the Petersen Automobile Museum, the Grove and Farmer's Market, strawberry picking, volunteering at Kitten Rescue, to the beach, to Santa Monica Swim Center where I helped teach her to swim, to Palm Springs to stay with my mom, and so many other adventures. When she was fifteen, I went to her Quinceanera (she looked so beautiful in her dress and she gave a speech that made everybody cry). When she turned 16, I gave her a driving lesson (which is probably why she doesn't have her license yet). Lali is always so much fun to hang out with because she is extremely open minded and excited to try new things. We discovered that she loves Indian and Greek food! Lali also talked her way into appearing with her mom on Lebron James' Graduate Together, which recently aired on all 4 networks. Lali recently found out that she was accepted to her top choice school, Cal State East Bay. Sadly, her first semester will be a virtual one (until more is known about the pandemic). She will major in Business Administration with a focus on Entrepreneurship. I want her to have the tools she needs to succeed, so if you can contribute to this fundraiser, Lali can get the laptop she needs to continue her studies, which hopefully won't be virtual for too long. I am so proud of what a generous, kind, smart, funny, determined and loving young woman Lali has become. I am so much more hopeful about the future of the world with kids like her leading the way.
