If your child attends or has attended Sir Charles Tupper School, you and your children have likely and luckily had the pleasure of getting to know Cindy Sullivan.
She generally has several children cuddled up and gathered around her. She loves the children fiercely, and keeps them entertained and in line with her incredible sense of humour. She also gives great advice and a listening ear to parents. Cindy cares deeply about Tupper families; parents and children.
Countless times, I’ve heard her speak lovingly about former students or watched them stop to chat with Cindy as they pass by the school.
Cindy has run the Tupper Excel before and after school program for 16 years. She was also a lunch monitor up until last year.
She is an integral part of the Sir Charles Tupper School family.
Her son Nathan is a lunch monitor and helps with the Excel program, her daughter-in-law Naomi works with the Excel program, and Cindy’s four grandchildren are students at the Sir Charles Tupper school.
In early September, Cindy began experiencing difficulties walking and lost mobility in her legs. She was diagnosed with stenosis in her C spine and underwent emergency surgery to prevent any further paralysis.
Cindy has been moved to the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre where she will undergo intensive rehabilitation therapy for at least 3-4 months. Physical and rehabilitation will continue long after she is released from the Centre.
Cindy is strong and she’s a fighter. She is a force. She has a steely determination, and a sense of humour. However, the future for Cindy is uncertain.
It is expected that on top of a loss of her income, there will be significant expenses necessary for Cindy to return home; none of which, a couple of months ago were anticipated. These expenses include a wheelchair and vehicle and house adaptations.
This fundraiser is to help raise money for Cindy and her husband, Peter and relieve some of the stressors and allow them both to focus on Cindy’s recovery.
Peter has experienced some of his own health issues, and is working full time and making sure he is able to visit with Cindy each day.
Please consider donating - any amount helps - and share this fundraiser with others.
Please also consider sending your love and well wishes for Cindy and her family as they go through this difficult process. Cindy misses her Tupper children and their families very much.
