At 59 yrs, my beautiful, wild husband James Lee died from Stage IV Lung cancer.
He was a “never smoker”, super athletic, active duty service member with 33 yrs of dedication to the military. We deployed to Afghanistan together and worked daily side by side. It was a gift to see his brilliance with pharmaceuticals & patient care. I loved him dearly.
A physician whose passion included rescuing patients from unrelenting pain through innovative means. The same pain he himself could not escape.
Words from his friend and Dept. Chief, “For those who knew him, Jim was vast. Jim was a soldier, a pharmacist, a pilot, a sailor, a mad scientist, a futurist, a vegan, a humanitarian, an anesthesiologist, a father and husband, and so much more. He lived life to its utmost fullest and took advantage of every second he had on this earth. Above all, Jim was a fundamentally decent person who loved his wife, his son Mikael, and all of his friends and family dearly. I am honored to have known him, and I am sure all of you feel the same way. The world is a better place because Jim Lee lived in it.”
His biggest wish was to see me run the Boston Marathon in person. We were set to go last year, then Covid happened. I time-qualified this year, but Jim did not make it. A new clinical trial was within reach, but cancer would not relent. I will run in October honoring him. I decided to raise money leading up to the Boston marathon in conjunction with Dana Farber Cancer Research Institute, which led a clinical trial of Tegrisso, the targeted therapy that allowed Jim to live his life to the fullest 2yr 3mos from his diagnosis. https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03586453
Dana Farber Cancer Research is world renown for cutting edge research and provision of excellent patient care. The deep expertise in these two areas uniquely positions Dana-Farber to develop, test, and gain FDA approval for new cancer therapies in its laboratories and clinical settings.
Donation of $50 or more, I will bake and deliver/mail a non-vegan or vegan dessert. Smaller donations are welcome, but only those $50 or larger will receive baked goods.
Please help stop cancer from taking another soul.
