Help Cindy and Gabe Get Their Home Back

Winter storms Uri and Olivia’s devastation is being felt by many here in Texas. Unfortunately, we were among those affected by their paths. The low temperatures combined with days of no power resulted in our pipes bursting, which lead to our ceiling collapsing. The water continued to spill like a waterfall, flooding the entire house. We weren’t home at the time of the incident as we went out to find gas and food with a friend and her child who we’re staying with us through the storm. It took us three hours to get back and it was only when we opened the door that we realized there was a waterfall coming down from our ceiling and destroying our house. The water had risen to about 4-5 inches and reached every single room in the house.

We were blessed with the opportunity to live in that house by 2 amazingly incredible human beings. Don and Penny, who are the owners of the house and our landlords, but most importantly, they’re a second set of parents we were blessed with many years ago. They offered us to rent us this house because they wanted us to have a place where we could have our 5 dogs, who they call their grandchildren. A place where we could live comfortably and where they could have space to play and run. We’ve lived there for almost 3 years. We also have 2 others who live with us. A family member Walter, and roommate Ernie, who have been affected and displaced as well. 

Last week on Wednesday February 10th we lost Don. We are heartbroken. Devastated. Penny lost her soulmate- her world is shattered. The last thing she needed was to deal with this. Why did this have to happen? Why now? We are starting this fundraiser to help pay for the insurance deductible and cover some of the damages to our personal items which insurance won’t cover because we unfortunately don’t have renters insurance. Penny is already dealing with so much. There’s so much on her shoulders. She’s disabled and in end stage COPD. The last thing we want is for this to fall on her. Her birthday was yesterday as well so you can see how hard this whole situation is. She doesn’t deserve this. Don and Penny have done so much for us. They have given us more than we could ask for. They are our angels. This is the least we can do for them (her). They mean the world to us and we want to do this for them. The deductible for the house is $2,500 and we added a cushion on the goal for personal damages ect.

Thank you everyone for all your love and support you have showed us these past days. We were feeling hopeless but we’ve seen so much light recently and are just so grateful. La devastación de las tormentas invernales Uri y Olivia se esta haciendo sentir en todo Texas. Lamentablemente, estamos entre los que han sido afectados por sus trayectorias. Las bajas y heladas temperaturas combinadas con fallas de energía que duraron dias hicieron que se explotaran nuestras tuberías y se viniera el techo para abajo. El agua continuo saliendo, inundando la casa entera. No estábamos ahi cuando paso porque habíamos salido a buscar comida y gasolina. Nos tomos tres horas volver y solo cuando abrimos la puerta fue que nos dimos cuenta que había una cascada de agua cayendo del nuestro techo, inundándolo y destruyéndolo todo. El agua ya estaba como a 10-12 centímetros de alto y se había esparcido a todos los cuartos de la casa.

Fuimos bendecidos con la oportunidad de vivir en esa casa por dos personas increíblemente maravillosas. Don y Penny son los dueños de la casa y nuestros caseros, pero mas importante, son un segundo par de padres con los que fuimos bendecidos hace muchos años. Nos ofrecieron alquilarnos esta casa porque querían que tuviéramos un hogar en el que pudiéramos tener a nuestros 5 perros, a quienes llaman “nietos”. Un lugar en el que pudiéramos vivir cómodamente y donde pudieran tener espacio para correr y jugar. Hemos vivido ahi por casi 3 años. Hay 2 personas que vivían con nosotros: Walter, un familiar, y nuestro compañero de cuarto, Ernie, quienes también han sido afectados y desplazados.

El miércoles de la semana pasada, el 10 de febrero, perdimos a Don. Estamos desconsolados y devastados. Penny predio a su alma gemela, su mundo esta destrozado. Lo ultimo que necesita es tener que lidiar con esto, por que tenia que pasar? Por que ahora? Estamos empezando esta recaudación de fondos para ayudar a pagar el deducible del seguro y cubrir algunos de los daños a nuestros objetos personales que no van a ser cubiertos por el seguro porque, desafortunadamente, no tenemos seguro de alquiler. Penny ya esta lidiando con demasiadas cosas y carga demasiado en sus hombros. Tiene una discapacidad y esta en la etapafinal del EPOC (enfermedad pulmonar obstructive crónica). Lo ultimo que queremos es que todo esta caiga en ella. Ademas, su cumpleaños fue ayer, asi que se pueden imaginar lo dura que es toda esta situación. Ella no se merece esto. Don y Penny han hecho tanto por nosotros. Nos han dado mas de lo que podríamos pedir. Son nuestros ángeles. Esto es lo menos que podemos hacer por ellos (ella). Significan mucho para nosotros y queremos hacer esto por ellos.

Gracias a todos por el amor y apoyo que nos han brindado en estos últimos dias. Estábamos inconsolables pero hemos visto muchísima luz últimamente y estamos tan agradecidos. Entendemos completamente si no pueden donar, si pudieran apoyar compartiendo el link estaríamos muy agradecidos. Otras cosas que necesitamos de momento son camas para nuestros perros y bins/cajas para guardar nuestras cosas una vez que empiecen a arreglar la casa.
