My mom, Cindy, has always been a source of strength and love for our family, but now she is facing one of the toughest battles of her life. She has been diagnosed with Stage IV Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of liver cancer. Her tumor is inoperable, but there is hope—she is a candidate for Histotripsy, an innovative treatment that could destroy the tumor and offer her a better quality of life. Unfortunately, this treatment is not usually covered by insurance, and the sessions are very expensive. She will need to travel to California for care, which adds to the financial burden.

If my mom is able to have Histotripsy, it could help alleviate her pain and potentially get rid of the liver tumor. There is also a chance that her body could experience an abscopal effect, where her immune system would begin to attack the affected lymph nodes as well. This treatment could give her new hope and the possibility of spending more time with her loved ones. The first line of chemotherapy did not work for her, and the second line is making her very sick. We hope that after Histotripsy, she will be able to take a reduced dose of chemotherapy and feel better.
