Help Cindi Smile Again!

Our mother Cindi is out-living the prognosis of her cancer diagnosis in 2021 and is committed to a strong quality of life as she continues her treatment. Her dentist and doctors believe she is now healthy enough to have the dental surgery she needs to be fitted for dentures; but now her insurance will not cover it. Cindi is ONE TOUGH MOTHER and we are so very proud of her—but, we cannot do this alone. After 2 years of treatments, hospitalizations, and navigating very intense and confusing medical, healthcare, and financial aid systems, we need to ask for some support.
While this procedure seemingly falls under dental care, this is really a necessary medical, life-saving procedure that she needs in order to continue eating and living well. Because of her medical needs, Cindi will need to have the oral surgery done at the University of Iowa Hospital of Dentistry where her team of doctors will be able to be on-site and monitor her—which makes this a much more costly procedure than a “traditional” tooth extraction and denture fitting process. Cindi has Medicare + supplemental insurance; however, Medicare insurance will not cover such a procedure (or any oral surgeries) if the patient has endured radiation to their neck or head. Therefore, because Cindi has had a previous (successful!) radiation treatment for cancer, Cindi will now need to pay for the procedure and hospitalization out of pocket. As a former dental assistant, Cindi knows how important this procedure is & yet the cost is phenomenal.
We are making every effort we can to pursue financial assistance through University of Iowa and other cancer patient financial support networks, as well as this Go Fund Me.
Anything you are able to contribute is greatly appreciated.
Let’s get Cindi smiling again!
