As many of you know our dad, Chuck, was diagnosed with lymphoma in July. About a week after finishing an intense round of chemotherapy at the beginning of September, he was found unresponsive at his home. He was rushed to Mercy Fitzgerald where he was immediately put on a ventilator. He had developed an infection which spread and he quickly went into septic shock. Doctors were certain he wouldn’t make it through the night. Thankfully, as most of us know, Chuck is a fighter.

He was on the ventilator for 12 days and when coming off the ventilator, he struggled to become coherent. He was lost in a delusional state for a few weeks. Our dad went through many difficult obstacles that included various infections, procedures, and additional chemotherapy injections due to the spread of his cancer throughout the next few weeks. He currently is still 100% bedridden.

The positive side of this is the cancer is currently in remission which is what brings us to where we are today!

After spending the last 3 and a half months between hospitals and rehab facilities we are looking forward to bringing our dad home around the middle of January if all works out!

Unfortunately we still have a lot of work to do with having him ready to be at home with us.

That being said, we need to make sure he has the necessary accommodations from building a ramp, installing a first floor handicap accessible bathroom, and building a bedroom on the first floor to name a few.

As his children we have been working tirelessly to keep up with all bills to get him through, but this is where we need your help. Any amount is helpful and will be put towards making Chuck comfortable in his own home and ensuring he has the necessary care he needs.

Coming home!

First, thank you so much to those of you who have donated to support our dad! It is greatly appreciate and lifts some weight off of us as we prepare to get Chuck home where he is more comfortable.

January 12th - the return home!!!

We all met with his care team yesterday to go over progress and set backs. While Chuck has made great progress he still has a long road ahead. At this point he is still unable to stand/walk so he will need a lot of accommodations at home to be comfortable and to be able to continue with therapies. Transportation will be needed to go to and from doctor’s appointments. Insurance will cover some of the large items needed, but not everything.

We’d appreciate those of you who donated to continue to share this story in hopes to raise some more funds to make improvements, accommodations, and preparations for our dad’s future care!
