My boyfriend and I have been feeding a stray for around 7 months because he always stays in our neighborhood. We named him Chubs.

On 11/24, my boyfriend heard two dogs fighting, and we went outside to make sure it wasn’t the little stray being hurt. By the time I got to the dogs, I saw the German Shepherd attacking Chubs. I screamed for him to stop and ran towards him while he was shaking Chubs with his teeth, fully puncturing him. Chubs ran behind me after I scared the dog off, and I didn’t see any blood on his coat.

The next day, I noticed he didn’t run up to us like he usually does, and we whistled for him to come up. He looked very sad, was moving slow, and was covered in wet mud from the attack. I bathed Chubs because it was cold outside, and I didn’t want him to freeze from the wet mud. I still didn’t see blood, and I didn’t see wounds because of the mud. We let him sleep in the room with us, and that’s when I noticed him licking under his belly. That’s when I saw he was actively bleeding.

I took him to the vet, and they said they needed to do surgery on him and add drains. When I agreed to a neutering also, they showed me the bill, and it came out to $2511.60. I did not think it would be more than $500 for stitches. After declining the neutering, blood work, and X-rays, the bill went down to $1700. We put this all on a credit card. We couldn’t deny the dog help. Any help is appreciated to help pay off this debt because the credit card bill is already high.

And, if anyone with a loving home in the Antelope Valley area would like to house him, I am open to bringing him after he heals in 3 weeks.
