I'm raising funds for my own living expenses. I have not been able to work for almost two years due to a health emergency. My goal is set hoping for several months padding to supplement my SSI. I will use the time to continue looking for work and things to to sell - Anyone want my Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe? $25 and it's yours!
I'm 68 yrs old living in Dallas, TX . I have diabetes and neuropathy in my feet, related to the diabetes.
Just after Thanksgiving in 2023, I ran water into my bathtub to wash my feet. As I dried my feet, sheets of skin came off with the friction – I hadn’t felt the hot water burning my skin.
I made it through my holiday obligations until Dec 26th. I knew something was bad wrong so I took myself to UT Southwestern Clements ER. I almost made it to the elevator before I collapsed.
Gangrene in my toes had grown into full-blown sepsis. Several organs and essential systems were crashing.
Two days later, I was headed to surgery to remove all ten toes and the infected bone and tissue from both feet. There were several more surgeries over the next several months as osteomyelitis kept recurring.
I was in UTSW Clements hospital, which is a truly beautiful place – if you have to be in a hospital for four months. Then I went to a skilled nursing facility for three months. Finally got home in July 2024... There was another surgery at some point.
I've been released by all my orthopedic surgeons and am living well on my own with limited mobility. I use a walker and wheelchair and hope to move to just a cane at some point.
The ask:
I have not been able to work for almost two years. I’ve applied for hundreds of jobs – looking for remote, hybrid, or in-person positions.
It's been hard to keep a comma in any of my accounts, leaving only my SSI for all my expenses.
Can you help?
I will continue to vigorously look for work. I will continue to talk to everyone I know about a job. I will continue to box up stuff that might sell on eBay or wherever, but I’m short of what I need. Please help if you can.
Thank you for your consideration.
Charles
