I’m Christy-Lynne, and I started this fundraiser after moving to Binghamton to start over and establish in-state residency so I can return to grad school. After a terrible experience in my last university town, where transphobia and social isolation left me essentially alone for two years, I knew I needed a real chance to rebuild my life somewhere new. I was accepted to Binghamton University for my next program, but because I was still considered an out-of-state student, I wasn’t able to secure funding for this year and was advised to move here and establish residency for the next school year. I made that leap, but the move from Illinois cost more in gas and other expenses than I had planned for, and I haven’t secured a job yet.
Right now, I’m asking for help covering basic living expenses while I get on my feet. The funds from this fundraiser will go toward one month’s rent, food, and my phone bill so I can stay housed, keep searching for work, and begin settling into this community. After two years with so few resources and so little support, I’ve been in Binghamton less than a month and I can already see the possibility of building a future here. My upcoming program will keep me here for years, and I truly want to make this town a home. If you’re able to help, whether by donating or sharing this fundraiser, it would mean so much to me. With a little support, I can get through this difficult moment and move forward.
