Help Christy Smith Fight Stage 4 Breast Cancer

Donation protected
To be lucky enough to know Christy Smith is to know the most caring, compassionate, loving yet silly person on God’s great planet. In December of 2020, Christy was diagnosed with Stage 3a Invasive Ductal Carcinoma of the breast. By the end of January 2021, doctors had discovered that the cancer had spread to a few places on the liver. She’s now battling Stage 4 cancer. Because it has spread to nearby lymph nodes and the liver, her cancer is considered by doctors to be no longer curable, but it is treatable. My sister and best friend has a long road ahead of her, but she is not alone. She is surrounded by family, friends and co-workers who love her and pray for her daily, and she is a daughter of the Almighty God. She has a very strong faith and is a strong believer of God’s miracles and will not give up or give in.

Christy’s story is pretty amazing actually. After growing up in the country with the most amazing sister ever (that would be me), she became a registered nurse so that she could be a worldly extension of God’s healing hand. As a certified pediatric nurse and board-certified vascular access nurse, she has spent the past 17 years providing care and support to thousands upon thousands of kids with cystic fibrosis and other complex chronic lung diseases and their families. She’s been an ongoing source of love, encouragement and hope.

Recently, one of Christy’s previous patients said, “You helped take care of me many times. I always felt safe when you were my nurse. I miss you and all my lovely ladies from the floor. Please try to stay strong. I know that phrase is said too much these days but let me try to explain. From an early age, CF kids hear of their mortality but yet they live their life without the thought of death. You have seen this strength. Now you need to emulate your patients…pull from us.” Christy has given so much of herself to these children growing up that they are now reaching back out to her; telling her of the strength she told each of them that they had within them, reminding her that she has that same strength within her too. This isn’t Christy’s first time on the other side of nursing. In 2013, Christy and her husband became the incredibly proud parents of twins born at 28 weeks gestation. Not part of their plan, but trusting in God’s plan for them, they spent the next 75 days in the NICU before both sweet babies were home and healthy. Trusting in God’s plan isn’t always easy, but His plan is always amazing and beautiful.

Being on the hilltop looking down at the blessings God has bestowed upon us is easy. What’s not easy is the time we spend in the valleys. During these times in our lives, when we are searching for the meaning and understanding of what God’s plan may be for a particular season is hard. It’s hard on the sister 600 miles away who wants so desperately to say the right thing, to make it all go away, to take away some of the burden. Christy isn’t asking, but I am. I’m asking that you consider donating to my sister and her family. We all know that it takes a village, and a village is what she needs right now. A village of warriors. Warriors who will fight alongside of her and help her keep from stumbling. She will inevitably miss some work during this season, and as much as I wish that I were able to carry them financially though this storm, I cannot do it alone. There are not only medical expenses, but also expenses that still need covered while she is unable to be at work. Please keep in mind that no amount is too small. Every single cent will go directly to Christy. I really would like to see her and her family be able to concentrate on the fight, and not the bills. Please feel free to share the link to this fundraiser with anybody who you think might want to help her. Most of all though and above all else, please keep Christy, her family, her friends, her co-workers and patients in your thoughts and prayers. We thank you so much for your contributions both financially and spiritually. God Bless.
