Please help our Dad - Christopher DiLorenzo
On September 1st, Hurricane Ida tore through New York City and left so many at her mercy. A man who has been a father to me for more than half my life, was unfortunately not spared. Christopher DiLorenzo is the epitome of a good man and is someone who would always do anything for anyone, even as much as giving you the shirt off his back. When in high school, I became friends with his daughter and quickly became a part of the family. Chris has been there for me for so much of my life from high school events, to every milestone in my adult life. He’s been a phone call for advice, a shoulder to cry on and truly the best grandfather to his grandkids. Chris lives in Queens on the basement level of a house where he kept all of his and his 12 year old daughter’s belongings. The aftermath of this hurricane had devastating effects. Chris lost everything as his home was under seven feet of water. From personal belongings such as photos, birthday cards, drawings all of which can never be replaced…to basic clothing, bedding, electronics, appliances, furniture, toys, and ultimately his car.
The concrete walls were torn down by the powerful water pressure, his refrigerator was floating on top of his workbench and sewage filled the rooms. He also hasn’t had working plumbing since the hurricane. We truly are at a total loss. True to his character, while his own home was flooding, he chose to prioritize the safety of a woman trapped in her vehicle by pulling her out of her window and providing a safe place for her to ride out the storm.
On top of everything, Chris has recently underwent 3 major surgeries in the last year, most recently getting out of the hospital less than a week prior to this tragedy. He is currently safe and residing with family, and desperately needs financial support to help him reestablish his livelihood. He is the most wonderful, loving and supportive father and grandfather and asks for nothing in return. He values his independence and ability to provide for himself, and he is struggling in this time coping emotionally, physically and financially. He has given us the world and we hope that we can give him some comfort in his time of need. Any amount donated will go to replacing his basic necessities such as clothing, furniture, bedding, and toiletries, as well as towards the purchase of a reliable and safe vehicle. Thank you for your compassion and help during this time.
