The insurance company denied the medication again, which means we will have an upcoming hospitalization again please continue to support Christopher and his family as we go through this difficult time
Christopher was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in January 2024. Our insurance company would not approve any medication to treat him as they deemed it medically unnecessary ! in the meantime Christopher had diarrhea continuously every day to where it was gradually becoming five times a day or more . they approved a steroid for him that threw him off balance Pretty bad ! he gets off balance quickly due to being legally blind to begin with we had to stop the treatment . the insurance company was then notified that the steroid was not working and that he needed to be on medication for Crohn’s disease. The insurance company had a six week appeal and finally approved Humira . Christopher has only been on that now for about four months in the meantime, the Humira is not working. He was hospitalized October 17 for severe bleeding of the bowels and the diarrhea at this point was at 16 times a day all hours of the day and night making His quality of life not existent as he could not get out of his bed, he was having accidents as well . He did not go outside for most of summer fearing another accident . He is extremely pale and weak and dropped over 25 pounds. None of his clothing fits anymore. They put him on a steroid for two weeks that actually worked the severe inflammation is still there however the symptoms were much improved. Christopher began to eat again. His color came back a little bit, and his smile never faded though out! last Thursday He unfortunately took a turn for the worst three days after the steroid was complete. The diarrhea came back again to 16 times a day the bleeding this time was much more intense he had to be rushed out to the hospital Sunday morning, where we were just released yesterday evening his hemoglobin dropped, and he almost needed a blood transfusion. He was three points away. He did receive iron transfusions and now we are being told he is anemic,. They started him on tapered steroid . unfortunately we live about an hour away from the hospital and we will have a ton of upcoming doctors appointments also almost an hour away . we are hoping that the insurance company approves a new Crohn’s medication for him and does not let him get this bad again as he will need blood transfusions. His heart rate is experiencing some extreme tachycardia symptoms, and later today we do have a G.I. appointment which we may find out he must go back into the ER due to heart issues. We cannot get his heart rate under control . all of his supplements, new clothing, gas, money and unpaid medical bills had just left in a financial emergency. If the insurance company does not approve a better Crohn’s disease medication for him the G.I. doctor told us we will already be back out in the emergency room in the same situation We’re in now . the inflammation is so severe in his lower intestines and colon that he had multiple Ulcers that are bleeding. He did have to have another procedure done Monday at the hospital and they did a biopsy if you cannot give at this time we completely understand please pray for him for it is much needed. If you read our story thank you so much for staying to hear his story while we are far from finished i. Christopher’s strength and encourage through this difficult time has been heartwarming and devastating as a parent at the same time to watch your child suffer the way he’s suffering now and there’s nothing you can do about. It is devastating everyone at the hospital was sad to see him go because they said he was the sweetest patient They had in a long time but they were happy He was well enough to come home. It is terrifyingly scary because we might end up right back in the hospital again. Crohn’s disease is a horrific disease that most people think it’s just a little bit of belly pain and diarrhea to get over it. You’ll be fine. It is life-threatening when left untreated and the G.I. doctor told us basically Christopher‘s is untreated at this time because the medications not working Thank you for your continued support from the bottom of our hearts !
