My name is Christopher Garrett, and I’m a 59-year-old man living in Brooklyn, NY. I’ve never been married and don’t have children, but I’ve always tried to take care of myself and stay independent. Unfortunately, over the past few years, I’ve developed crippling osteoarthritis in both of my knees. The pain has become unbearable, making it nearly impossible to get around or do the things I used to enjoy.

In December, my SSI benefits were canceled, leaving me without the financial support I relied on to get by. To make matters worse, I desperately need a knee replacement surgery, but my insurance won’t cover the procedure. I’ve explored every option I can think of, but I keep hitting dead ends.
